T.A.P. Electric Reviews: What Southeast Iowa Customers Say

T.A.P. Electric holds a 5.0 star rating across 80 Google reviews. We also carry five star reviews on Facebook, Yelp, and Yahoo Local. Not one review, on any platform, sits below five stars.

You should not take that at face value from a page we wrote ourselves. Every review below is public. Read them on Google and check us against what is written here.

We put this page together because “check our reviews” is a useless thing to tell somebody. What you actually want to know is what the job was, whether the price held, whether the crew showed up when they said they would, and what happened when something went sideways. That is what is below, sorted by the kind of work.

The obvious question: why is there nothing under five stars?

Fair thing to ask. Here is the honest answer.

T.A.P. Electric is a small shop. Troy is on most jobs personally, and the work is concentrated in a 60 mile radius around West Burlington. In a service area this size, your reputation is the business. A homeowner in Keokuk who is unhappy tells six neighbors before they ever open Google. That reality shapes how we quote, how we schedule, and what we do when we get something wrong.

We also do not chase volume with cut rate pricing, and we do not take work we are not equipped to do well. Turning down a job we would botch is cheaper than earning the review that follows it.

None of that makes us immune. If we ever earn a review below five stars, it will stay up, and you will see how we answered it. Deleting bad feedback is how a rating stops meaning anything.

What customers bring up most often

Google scans review text and surfaces the phrases that repeat. Across our reviews, the phrase that comes up most is “knowledgeable staff,” mentioned in 22 separate reviews. After that: outlet installation, generator installation, and code updates.

That tracks with what people actually call us about. Very few customers open with “I need a 200 amp service.” They open with “something is wrong and I do not know what it is.” Explaining the problem in plain language before quoting it is most of the job.

Rewires, code updates, and older homes

Whole home brought up to code · Keokuk

“Troy was an immense help getting the very out dated electrical work in our home up to current code, putting in the necessary equipment to upgrade our appliances, and having our home ready to move into in a timely manner. His entire process was very thorough from his walk through and quote with all the work suggested, to the finished product and final walk though. He was even so kind as to clean up some of the cobwebs that had accumulated in our basement rafters and also didn’t leave any mess behind. Another thing that was really appreciate was progress photos he would share as work was completed each week and the availability to chat at odd hours and on weekends about any issues or extra things. Lastly, Troy went above and beyond with making extra visits to our home if other projects/job sites were delayed. Overall, my wife and I are very pleased with Troy’s work and would absolutely recommend him to anyone needing electrical work. We certainly intend to stay in touch for future work on our home.”

Older home, code corrections · Keokuk

“I recommend T.A.P. Electric for electrician needs in the Keokuk, IA area. I called a few electricians in the areae. T.A.P. was the only on to return my call. You will be treated like a person, not just a job. (Which I cannot say about the company I spoke with prior to finding T.A.P.) They are quick to respond and provide fast service at fair price. They are knowledgeable and will explain everything, like what’s not up to code and exactly what will be done.”

Buying a house and finding surprises

Gutted house, same day estimate

“I hired T.A.P. after buying a house(site unseen) and realizing that it had been completely gutted. Troy came the same day I called for an estimate when every other electric company either never showed up or were 2 weeks out for an estimate and 2+ months out to even begin service! The price was VERY reasonable and they were very kind and professional. My first home buying experience has been a nightmare this far but my experience with T.A.P. was awesome and has made the experience a little better. Especially now that my house has electric running through it! I will most definitely call Troy again and will recommend him to anyone I can. Thanks again!!”

Pre closing electrical, walked through the cost

“Troy did an amazing job! There were so much stuff going on in the process of buying our home. Troy came and gave us a quote for a pretty big job. He walked us through and made sure we understood everything he was doing and the cost. He got to us very quickly and even when we were unsure on the closing date and everything was up in the air he made sure to keep in touch and informed. When he started the job he was quick and efficient came back after the initial job and fixed our air conditioner upstairs. I really enjoyed the experience. I swear by TAP he will always be our first call and recommendation to all of our friends and family”

Two different buyers, three years apart, same pattern: the inspection turned up electrical work nobody budgeted for, on a closing timeline that would not move.

Storm damage and emergency calls

Mast replaced on Palm Sunday

“The recent storm took down the power to our house. Troy was very responsive when I called. He came over on Palm Sunday to replace the mast on our house and he and his assistant Hunter were both very professional as well as personable. He even called later to make sure that everything was good when the utility company came and reconnect our power. I would highly recommend him.”

Ceiling fan swap uncovered bad wiring

“I highly recommend TAP Electric! We gave them a call when we found some interesting wiring going on when we went to replace our ceiling fan. I’m so glad that we did! Troy and Hunter did an excellent job of diagnosing what was going on, they were very professional and left the job site cleaner than when they arrived! I love to know all about what is going on and they were so good at explaining what they saw and how they were going to address the issue. I think the best feeling is knowing that the job was done right and I can sleep peacefully knowing that.”

Garages, outbuildings, and added circuits

Underground run to a garage

“TAP electric did great. They ran the electric underground out to our garage. Our setup was older and needed brought up to code. They were friendly/kind, easy to get ahold of, were on time, responded in a timely manner, did clean work, cleaned up after themselves, and most importantly were fairly priced for quality work. They take all forms of payment and I got the invoice as well as receipt on the spot. As a female customer I found them easy to communicate with and I felt respected. My husband was busy working on updates on our home, so I was mainly the one in communication with the crew. Highly recommend these guys and would hire again in the future.”

New garage wiring · Fort Madison

“I called several electricians to get an estimate on wiring up a new garage. Troy was the only one that responded to me. He does outstanding work and is reasonably priced. I hold great value in a business that responds to my phone calls and appreciates me as a customer. I now know an electrician that I can count on. I’ll recommend him to anyone! Thanks Troy you’re the best!”

Wiring straightened out, panel labeled

“I had T.A.P. Electric straighten out my wiring that was ran all over the place, they put in a couple outlets for me, wired my basement lights to be all on a switch instead of pull strings and labeled everything in my fuse box. They made sure of what I wanted and double checked with me if they had questions. Troy and Hunter were both very professional, reasonably priced and did great work in a timely manner. I will definitely contact them for future projects!”

Generators and long term projects

Multi phase project including a generator

“We had an extensive long term job that needed to be completed to upgrade our garage, update our upstairs in house wiring, and replacing and/or upgrading our outside electrical as well installing a generator. We are happy with our completed work and feel much safer with our updated electrical systems. A huge thank you to Troy for working us in to get all of our work completed.”

Reviews from your town

We match reviews to towns through our job records, not guesswork, so a review only carries a city when we can confirm the address. Each service area page carries the reviews from that town.

Questions about our reviews

Do you pay for reviews or offer a discount for leaving one?

No. We ask customers for a review after the work is finished and the invoice is settled, and that is the whole ask. Paying for reviews violates Google’s policies and would make the rating worthless to you, which defeats the point of having one.

Some reviews do not say what the job was. Why?

Most people write a review in about thirty seconds from their phone. Short reviews are real reviews, they are just brief. We chose the detailed ones for this page because they are more useful to you, but the short ones count the same toward the rating.

Can I talk to a past customer directly?

Yes. Ask during your estimate and we will connect you with a customer who had work similar to yours, with their permission. It is a reasonable request on a project of any size and nobody should be uncomfortable making it.

Why do you show reviews from outside your service area?

A handful of reviews come from customers in western Illinois and towns at the edge of our range. We include them because they are real, and we mark the town when we can confirm it. If you are not sure whether you are in our area, call and ask before assuming you are not.

How do I leave a review?

The fastest way is through our Google listing. If something about the job was not right, please call us first at (309) 333-3912. We would rather fix it than read about it.

Do the reviews cover commercial work too?

They do. Roughly a fifth of what we do is commercial and industrial, and those reviews live on our commercial electrical page alongside the residential ones here.

Ready to get on the schedule?

If what you read above sounds like the kind of outfit you want in your house, the next step is a conversation about your project and an honest number. Call or text (309) 333-3912, or send us the details. If you want the numbers first, see how we price work.
